Confused about the comment of “stats mattering”

Good day, everyone  

just got a chance to look at the Madden 25 video where Henry and Mike Parsons are playing and they were mentioning about how now stats matter and  weight matters . I feel that’s confusing because then it appears as if they are saying that stats didn’t matter in the past and now it matters, I’m kind of confused.   

What about all those coins i invested based of the stats they showcased and cards you went after in the competitive based off the stats . Aren’t we all  chasing players based on their stats in MUT ? Are they now admitting or saying that the stats didn’t matter in the past ? why are they saying this? Does anyone know What this comment means?

It means it’s either regs or it’s early MUT so ratings dont matter, up until the Ability Anal Stretching Extravaganza starts around Xmas

They say the same crap every year tbh. Means nothing. The one interesting thing tho to look out for is how will they re-implement the broken fatigue system they randomly enabled mid season.

I just seems like they never address anything about the abilities and that seems to be the worst part of MUT

Take basically anything and everything said from EA as pure marketing speak -- i, too, have been forced to learn this the hard way.  Doesn't really matter what names they slap on it, it's basically the exact same game all over again.  It's common knowledge (at least in the Competitive Madden community) that stats barely matter.  Everything works off of minimum thresholds (generally speaking, with some notable exceptions).

For example, this early in the year, since abilities do not (yet) exist, at least not on the Core Elite (82-84 OVR cards available at launch), we're forced to rank these cards based on stats alone.  To use a specific example, the "Top 10 Core Offensive Linemen" is apparently Trent Williams, followed by everyone else.  HOWEVER (and please remember this is coming from a super biased, life long 49ers fanatic, so i do not say these things lightly), in my not always so humble opinion, big Trent is one of the worst O-line cards they're currently previewing, hardly the best.  I would be looking for minimum 80+ in all relevant stats (with ~85 being considered "elite" at this early stage), which i will attempt to detail below.  When it comes to ranking Offensive Line players/cards, we will want to focus on the following ratings that matter:

1. PBP - Pass Block Power, works against the defender's PMV (Power Move) rating
2. PBF - Pass Block Finesse, works against the defender's FMV (Finesse Move) rating
3. RBK - Run Blocking, calculated against the defender's BSH (Block Shed) rating

Regular Pass Blocking, Run Block Power & Run Block Finesse DO NOT MATTER.  To be determined how (or if) Strength matters in this year's blocking calculations.  Last year, weight seemed to play a fairly significant role, with the ultimate goal to have our entire O-line above the magic 300 pound mark.  And last, but certainly not least, the OVR rating on cards are PURELY COSMETIC.  They are absolutely meaningless and can be thought of as a rough or general guide when selecting players, however this is often more confusing than it's worth, because there is no reason you cannot run players out of position.  Despite that OVR rating changing slightly, they will still play the same and retain the exact same stats (and abilities, once these enter the game).

What you were hearing was EA's team of Marketing people trying to convince us all that the game is going to be so totally different this year, that they've listened (and heard) our complaints.  I smell bullshit, as others pointed out, this happens every single year and it's always, always, always basically the exact same game with wasted Dev time on stuff that fails to impact, let alone improve overall gameplay.

I could not give a flying fuck how things look, feel or appear, i care about; FUN, fair, balanced and hopefully competitive gameplay -- in that order.  With extra emphasis on the fun factor.
