Dalton Schultz, sneaky good WR.

Speed is important, acceleration is more important. Schultz has 97 SPD with the free strategy card and 99 ACC base. 

The meta has been high balls and Schultz with his 6'5 height and 244 (wish it was 252) weight alongside his 99 CTH, 97 CIT and 96 SPC means more often than not he'll come down with it. 

His only negative is a 96 release. It's not a bad release but it's not an elite release. 

OH, and he's a LTD so he'll hold his value.

96 is the lowest I'd go at this point of the year. 

99 is the gold standard but want to know a secret? Of course you do! 

Short in elite is amazing but short OUT elite is a freaking superpower. 

Short out elite makes your player impervious to being pressed on the line and your player will avoid the defender and get a small acceleration boost to go past him.

I agree with your points on the physical stats. His height, weight, speed, and acceleration are an elite combination.

However, Madden works on ratings thresholds, so his 96 release will play the exact same as 99 release... even if they have changed the thresholds to every five overalls instead of ten. Because of this I wouldn't list his release as a negative to the card... it's decently high for TEs. 

So, just to play it safe: 95+ for every non physical attribute. Any higher is unnecessary and there will have to be other factors to make upgrading cards worth it in general. 

So yes, while 99 is the gold standard, it is not necessary for a card to play the best it possibly can in the category of that stat. 

As for Short Out Elite, like you said it works to negate the press and helps with separation, particularly on streak routes.

Are you sure 90 is the threshold for everything? 

I ask because 95 awareness centers do not have the same ability to pick up their blocks as someone with 97 or 98.

Are physical thresholds a thing but mental aren't?

90 has been the threshold in all previous Madden games, but the rumor is they changed it to 95 this year. 
 

Awareness may be counted as a physical trait and not work on a threshold system. Not completely sure on that one.

No mental thresholds have been found yet, although traits (not stats) seem to work in a way which could be counted as mental.
