I turned off messaging and voice communication and I remember it being super hard to get it to actually turn off even tho the setting said it was off and the only reason I did was because I got annoyed by people being toxic on mut but I wanted it on again and I changed all my settings like a week ago and every time I try to message someone it’ll say “To do this, change a setting. You cannot send messages because of how your account is set up. To change this, customize your xbox private settings in Settings>account>privacy & online safety” does anyone know what to do???

Follow the directions your xbox is giving you of opening up your setting and navigating to those sections. Once you're there look for an option similar to "Who do you want to communicate with on Xbox?" you should be able to change this to something along the lines or everyone, friends, block. You're probably on block which is why it won't let you message anyone

I tried that and it would not work the way to do it is to change the settings AND go to your profile and change the settings from in there
