OK. I'm a decent Madden player, probably between "above average" and "good." But I haven't made Top 100 in Weekend League since Madden 20. Now, I usually only finish a handful of WLs per season because of other time commitments. This past weekend, my kids' basketball seasons are done, we were essentially snowed in on Saturday, and I had a late start to work on Monday. So conditions were perfect to try to finish my games for the third time this year (first two times I finished 17-8 and 16-9, both with 2 DCs each).
It was a weird WL. I started 4-4 on Thursday and Friday, playing like lukewarm garbage, then went on a 10-0 run to get to 14-4. Dropped a close one on Sunday night to bring me to 14-5, leaving me with 6 games to play this morning. I won two quick ones this morning, then ran up against a guy where everything went wrong -- dropped pass on third down, "Pressure Inaccurate" ball on 4th down, weird bounce off of my player that he picks off. I quit and... matched up against the same guy seconds later. I managed to read his hybrid man defense better this time, stay patient, and play keep away from his potent offense to win that one. So I'm 17-5. I load up again and play a guy who's running Trey Lance with Escape Artist and glitching out contains. I tried everything I could, but could not stop him. I made one mistake on offense and knew I was cooked. So I quit out. Next game I load up... and I get DC'd. So I'm sitting at 17-7. I load up my last game and play beautifully, clutching out a close win with some pressure defense to finish 18-7. I didn't think that would be enough, but lo and behold...
That's a sight to make this old man happy. I'll take good 'ole No. 99. Now I can move on to MLB The Show in April knowing I had a solid year in MUT.
