From my understanding, there are thresholds that - once they're being met - trigger better reaction times etc. - in Theory.
After upgrading my entire team from a lot of bnd, average cards to some of the current best cards in the game just for fun, im wondering what that really does.
As an example: I invested heavily in my D-Line and got a couple of guys with 90 BSH. I added Reggie White (89), Quinnen Williams, Maxx Crosby and theres no subjective difference in them getting to the QB or coming off blocks quicker against the run even against inferior O-Linemen. Should Maxx Crosby be blocked for 4 full seconds by a 82 OVR Guard? And if not, why is it happening on a regular basis ?
Other interesting because easily measurable"matchup is between WRs and DBs. If you have a 89 SPD 90 PRS 90 MCV Corner playing a slower WR who doesn't even meet some of the 85 route running thresholds and doesn't have 90 RLS to match the press stat, should said corner get insta-beat on the line and ran by for scores ?
If you would let Adam Thielen line up against Riq Woolen in press man every snap, how many times would Adam Thielen beat him with an outside release and have 2-3 steps on him immediately ? Correct - he wouldnt.
So this is obviously a video game and you probably wouldn't want better cards to shut down inferior cards 100/100 times but I feel like its a little more extreme in the opposite direction. As a Seahawks fan, I see Geno Smith run for his life every game because the O-Line sucks. The amount of pressures we concede is ridiculous.
Thats just what it is and thats what it should be like in the game - right?
I just find it weird to see that +2-3 speed and high pursuit are not enough to catch up 2-3 yards on a receiver or running back when DK Metcalf - in real life - can track down Budda Baker or other ridiculous types of effort plays we see every week were an enormous amount of ground is being covered. As someone who played with worse teams than my opponents for the most part of this MUT, I dont see the necessity to have all the best cards - it doesn't seem to matter too much other than having more speed going down that seams that are uncovered on almost every snap lol.
