I switched from Nickel to 6-1 because I couldnt stop the run and was losing...now I'm winning

I was playing either cover 3 or cover 4 in Nickle

Was running John Randle, Watt, Bruce Irvin and Aaron Donald, then would blitz (1) of my Sub Nickle LBs and user the other one

I couldn stop the run...Had (2) Inside stuffs, (2) no outsiders...didnt matter... i was even getting bullied by non angry runs RB

My DLine was non exisitent - my user Ed Oneil would always get blocked or pancaked

Then I switch to 6-1...same players and suddenly I stop the run all the time.  Randle suddenly began to shed blocks and gets inside pressure, even a few sacks

Irvin and Donald with no outsiders can cut off the stretch runs and also get through on QB blitzes

When I blitz my outside LBs, they always get to the QB, then with Lurk artist, they can drop back in coverage on pass players

I won 5 games in a row after the switch

Its almost like my team took steroids

Why does a 6-1 work so much better, despite the same players?  Do they lineup differently?

I mean a nickel set is not the same as a four-three set. Nickel incorporates 5 db's ( typically 3 corners and a 2 safeties). A stock four-three formation incorporates 3 linebackers and 4 d-lineman. So from basic football standpoint, you are replacing a DB with an LB. LB's are better at stopping the run and pass rushing, db's are better at covering. So by switching from a Nickel to a 4-3 form, one is loosing out on Pass coverage, but are enhancing their ability to pass rush and stop the run. 

I will also note that I run a Hyrbid 6-1/3-3 ODD defense out of the pats playbook. I use 6-1 in the red zone and to start the game, and then 3-3 odd in 3 rd/4th and long situations.

I disagree, as it is very straightforward to beat. And as someone who incorporates 6-1 into their scheme, it has several weak points, you just have to learn them lol.

Just RPO it to death… I don’t mind the 6-1 spammers, makes me not feel bad running RPO/read option all game.. they generally quit after they realize their lb’s are gonna get sucked into the fake every time and they might actually have to make an adjustment or an actual user play.

also as a Trips-TE merchant 6-1 is my favorite formation to play because off the snap something is already open lol
