Ever since next gen Madden came out, the game has just been shit. They took the good unrealistic stuff such as the movement and replaced it with the bad unrealistic stuff such as players jumping 5 feet off the ground to pick the ball off. I know players got up for interceptions in pre-next gen games but nowhere near as much as they do now. They also replaced the good realistic parts of the game like zones actually working (I know there were still beaters but at least you could adjust to it, now theres no defense at all) with bad realistic things like dropped balls and the ball going through players' arms (there should be no dropped balls in a competitive game mode). Plus, why is the game ability based? I liked the addition of abilities but it was ruined when they became discounted. I liked it when every ability cost the same on every player and how for example a strong arm QB got gunslinger for 2AP and HRM for 3AP when a field general got HRM for 2AP and gunslinger for 3AP.
Players have been able to jump 5 feet long before Madden made the jump to current gen.
EA added abilities because abilities are a way for EA to keep bad players playing and spending money longer in the current gaming cycle.
Archetypes are the OG attempt to gatekeep abilities. They discounted abilities that was known for that archetype. EA realized during the Kelvin Benjamin Golden Ticket era (#GreatestGoldenTicketEverCreated )
That they'd make more money if they just gave out abilities to whomever thus making archetypes useless
Don't remember the year, but the best year was when you could only have three players on each side of the ball with abilities. You could have several (three or four I think) abilities on each of these players...but...only three. This made these players clear difference makers and different folks used them differently (some used on DBs...other on DL)...again...making a small number of players "special"...now...shoot...every player on the field has abilities.
Ability dependence is definitely a turn off. It makes players without great discounts much less relevant (UL/Wildcards), despite those players being fan favorites or needed for a TT.
Since promo TTs get the best ability buckets, we‘ll see a lot of clone teams.
i hadnt played since Madden 19 and a lot has changed, some better, some worse

Hard to disagree with basically anything you've stated above. The game is not trending in a positive direction. Ultimate Team is not for you and i, it's created for the small (~1%) of whales and players who spend the most money. This is EA's "make or break" year after all -- their terminology, not my own. Because of this, the amount of players that they will pay to retain their licensing rights has tanked dramatically, we're getting the same recycled cards/content over and over and over.
Not to mention the abilities thing, which is quite possibly THE most glaring issue. Ensuring the game remains pay to win. I'm sure you'll hear tons of morons running around chiming in with nonsensical statements liek "scheme over team, brah" but that could not be further from the truth. I don't care how good you are at the game, if you start a new account today and I give you $25 to spend on a starter team, you almost certainly will not be able to compete with all the various X-factors and abilities, especially ones that start ON (or remain on an entire game). EA has tried numerous times this year to improve pass catching on both sides of the ball, only to finally admit failure, revert the prior changes and basically began feeding us a series of Pick and LurkArtist players for free or discounted. Because in "simulation" fatball, of course your professional athletes need to have an actual ability in order to simply catch the damn ball. Same thing on offense, we're still forced to run Gift Wrapped on our QBs if we hope to catch passes, especially any High Point pass attempts. And don't get me started about all the fatigue / stamina patches, which were also now reverted -- and those are just the ones off the top of my head, surely there are more examples of EA's inability to manage let alone understand their own darn game.
Zero testing, it's obvious they don't bother playing the game before releasing updates. EA has given up on even pretending to try, this has become a ridiculous cash-grab. Trying to find a little fun here and there, sadly no hope of fair, balanced, let alone competitive gameplay. What a disappointing cheese fest this has become.
