I bought 1 clark card cause he was cheapest, did the set w him, edelman, & bettis, then choose edelman & bettis back and upgraded clark to kelce on purpose. Immediately sold mahomes for 1.4 mill and then got 3 clark make right back haha. Sold all 3 clarks for about $430k ea. Felt like I was stealing.
I think the makes rights are because some ppl may have honestly put LTDs in the set thinking they could get them back with the 3 choices for the set and would really be screwed if they put ones like gregg in thinking they would get them back.

You'd be surprised, but there's a bunch of really corrupt organizations out there. While EA is pretty high up there on the list of greedy chumps, I'd suggest this style behavior is par for the course. For example, Norfolk Southern basically just "nuked" (with chemicals) a small town in Ohio. At least EA hasn't gotten anyone killed (yet), to the best of my knowledge. Sorry to be a drag, your point remains extremely valid.
Meanwhile, we're all left to pull ourselves up by our bootstraps. Oof.
