In order in your opinion
Cornerback, deep safeties, user, edge.

Pretty much what he said
CB's: Can't play with bad CB's or you will get cooked every time,
User: Only person you control, need a combo of height, speed, and abilities.
Safety's: Good deep safety's are also very useful. Look for speed, height, and zone and man coverages. Also get ones where the discounted abilities fit your scheme.
Edge: Try to get pressure by sending good players off the edge.
Interior D-Line: Just get some fat dudes with 1 AP Inside stuff and it works pre well.
Last and Least, Linebackers: Most useless thing in all of mut, unless your outside linebackers are your edge. Just use fillers for a TT/Kick Return
Safeties… the swish army knife. They can play multiple positions from Safety, Corner (harrison gets the cover 2 set cheaper than some corners for example), LB, and Edge (335 wide example). Having multiple ones can allow scheme flexibility.
You can realistically start between 2 and 8 safeties on any down.
