I'm not an Xbox user but guess what, I still use one as a PC player...hope that still counts for you since I know the answer to this question...
No controller is built to last. The xbox elite series 2 is probably the better choice atm but even still will eventually break down.

Ya, I thought that one was for Call of Duty or FPS that need more mapable button configs
I've used them all. Honestly the series controller is the one I'd get. I've got elites and they're great but they have the same 2020+ problems every Xbox controller has. They cheaped out on the back buttons meaning they're frail as fuck and you'll be either sending it back within x time or opening it up to fix it yourself. All the Xbox controllers of the last five years have this issue but you don't need to spend triple digits to have the same issue. Honestly out of the modern controllers, I'd get the latest series x one or the old Xbox one model if you can find one a bit cheaper. They're all interchangeable and work with every console. Having owned them, I can't recommend an elite of any range. I've never had one I haven't had issues with

This indeed is the correct answer. Don't get any controllers made by Microsoft lmao...they are the absolute worst. They come out of the box with drifting issues or they'll break down quickly. I mean if you wanna go with a series controller then go ahead, it's your money...but the odds are you will regret it and be back to wondering which one to get.
