TD Prep Done - cost 12M coins and a locked binder!

I’ll start by saying that I am a psycho for Team Diamonds. Easily my favorite MUT activity. 

Over the past week I have accumulated practically every non-LTD/redux between 76 and 88, plus a bunch of 75s. I’m missing about 20 cards now, mostly punters and fullbacks that I probably won’t buy. I’m down about 12 million coins. I made the final push with the companion app as my binder blew past the 1700 card cap to well over 2000. 

My goal: by being early I hope to sell for a good price. I’ll keep the Eagle plus any that get Eagles chems and sell the rest. I figure if I can sell 28 cards for about 400k each after tax I will recoup 11 of the 12 million coins I spent and will own the master and 4 set cards for about a million. Good outcome if it works out (although it rarely does when you try to outsmart MUT on sets). 

My warning: this is shaping up to be the worst year ever to build the sets. Pack odds are the worst they have ever been and the markets have been split up, so liquidity is super low. There are rarely more than 3 of any card up at any given time on Xbox X. Some of the high golds seemingly don’t exist on the auction house. I am still waiting on one low core elite that hasn’t been posted since yesterday. Not even for a price gouge. Just a random 80 OVR. Imagine what happens when dozens of players are trying to buy that card. I bet it takes people weeks to put together some of the sets. The price of 88s has also tripled in the last 36 hours...

I also felt that the fractured market would make Team Diamond sets very difficult to complete this year... but I unfortunately started prepping a full week before Most Feared!  So I've been managing my 1700 card binder limit for almost two months now.  I've lost so much value on my purchases (as I've watched training fall from ~32 to 10) that I could have just used those coins to buy the master outright on Day 1.  But you can't put a price on a lesson learned.  I will NEVER be a TD prepper again.  

At this point I just want my binder empty.  I play the old gen version of the game... where the market can be really tight for some cards (where you see only 1 sold in a three day period).  I think EA will have to add a Team Diamond Variety Pack otherwise we just won't be able to complete these sets.  Unless of course they decide to REALLY screw us preppers and change the set requirements completely.  Like what if each team's set just requires 8 x 88s from that team?  Then everything else will be useless.  That's my biggest fear at this point.

Good luck to you as well. You highlighted my greatest fear - that they shatter the TD model and make it something totally different. 

After seeing Blitz and Cover Athletes, I wouldn’t be surprised if it is a pack promo where you have to accumulate brand new cards to build the sets...

If the change is anything too drastic I might just be done with MUT. It will take too much energy to liquidate 2 thousand cards I don’t want in my binder.

It aint that serious brah, I have 18 mil and whole bunch of golds.

How do you guys have 1700 card binders? Mine keeps saying I have over 1400 cards and thats The limit

That's the gamble you never know and EA always trys to be smart and one step ahead of us making profit.

I'm just gonna quicksell all of it.  I still have 15 million coins and no patience to sell everything.

That works great if you want to buy the master. I make it my goal every year to build the master to as close to free as I can. 

I’m not kidding about market liquidity. If the sets work like every other year and they don’t add some sort of training roll the sets are going to be insanely challenging to get done in any reasonable way.

Ea is well aware of the weaker markets on pc and older gen which is why the sets may be different than previous years we will soon see.

I have 1400 non-duplicate cards from 78-88.  I'm missing two cards: 78 Willie Gay and 78 Andrew Van Ginkel.  To Ducati's post, I'm not sure I'll ever do this again, in part because I pretty much made this my MUT focus; I've been playing with 88 Aaron Rodgers as my starting QB for almost the whole year, and he's really my only non-BND player.  Per the MUT.gg binder tool, I have 756k in coins and 14.6M in binder value.  And if we need a crapload of 90+ wildcards to complete sets, I'll be in some pain Friday afternoon.

I have removed myself from the addictive state of mind that left me searching for meaning within the auction house. There are no “new cards and promos” only nameplates on the backs of digital jerseys. Why are you still reading this, I am not even here 👻

The sad thing is that I started doing this with my then 12-year old son.  He's long since moved on to COD and Apex; I'm still here and quite pathetic.

I thought I had kicked MUT last year but I came back in after New Year. It’s the monkey I can’t get off of my back.

I feel as if I have played madden ultimate team for hundreds of years! 
 

I lost significant interest in the game around late September, but to the reluctance of some, have been unable to emancipate myself from its community. I can understand the need for the grind but once I have removed my own motivations it is something silly to ponder.

Reminds me of when I quit smoking cigarettes and still hung out at the dirty bars. i wonder what else I have been subjecting myself to that has such effect. maybe I don’t even like the taste of coffee
