Hi everyone! I experimented with Aggressive blocking in house rules to get the stats on how often holding occurs with an all "normal discipline" trait O-line. I'll list the results first for those who don't care about testing method, and my opinion.
Successful run: 93
Holding call: 16
Total Plays: 109
% of runs plays called back for holding: 14.6%
My sample size of 109 runs was not extensive but not small either. I called the same IFORM stretch every single time, no ID the mike, and in coach adjustments changed blocking to 'aggressive' . The rational for this was the Deep Dive VOl1 which mentioned 7.5% blocking increase,5% impact blocking clipping increase and 500% impact blocking increase, at a penalty of 12.5% holding increase. My stats fall in line with the percentages laid out. It should also be noted I run almost an entirely 'normal' disciplined O-line, TE, and Fullback(except for my right guard who has the 'Disciplined' trait). Disciplined trait is supposed to reduce offensive holding by 90% but my RG was called for holding 2 times out of the 16 so it is not a guarantee. Results were mixed, there are definitely times when you part the red sea and other times you can get stopped for only 1-2 yards. I never lost yards though. Also of note the holding penalties are from spot of foul so if you rip off a huge gain it negates the play but if you get stuffed you will move ten yards back. If left on, it is possible to get holding penalty while passing. From my experience should not be left on, but worth a gamble on an important early down if you have to run the ball. (unless entire O-line built around 'disciplined' trait.)
