This is the first year i'm back in MUT since 2021 - theme teams used to be the way to go in MUT for the boost and it was nice economically because I was able to stack coins and just buy the players that matched the theme team. What is the thought on them in M24? Are they still good/fun to use? I don't have a favorite NFL team, but considering doing a 25/25 theme team?
Would you recommend going theme team route? And if so, would you do just one team or a 25/25 team?
campus heroes was the only theme team at the time I found that was strong enough to compete, other than that I'd say no.
ive seen a lot of 25 campus heroes and 25 cowboys tt. honestly though if ur gonna go 25/25 id do 25 campus heroes and 25 cowboys, chiefs, 49ers, or eagles.
I'd only recommend a 25 chem theme team if you're going to make one right now. A lot of teams have too many holes right now for me to recommend going for 50 chem.
I think theme teams have a similar level of fun factor that they've had in years past. If you enjoyed them before and you want to run a theme team go for it.
Yeah 25/25 is the best and just fill out the main part with the top end and then fill backups where needed.
No 2x/3x chems yet (except CH)

i was thinking 25/25 with some combination of Eagles/Chiefs/49ers (two of these three teams). I feel like that would still be relatively competitive

whats the point though when you can just buy players that would already be above the boosts levels? it's not really an effective method.

I've always been a Legends chem guy but last year, they added a promo in May called "Theme Team Remix" which gave even better boosts to TT's so I ended up with a 50/50 Ravens squad that I used the rest of the MUT year.
This year they've done away with Legends chems alltogether. Very early on it just made sense to run the best cards at each position... but when Campus Heroes dropped they had a special CH chem that was easy to achieve with just a few players. The Seahawks got a lot of great cards early so I went with 25 CH/25 Sea. I've since moved onto CH/Pit... then Pit/KC and now KC/SF... as new players dropped.
If you're not running your favorite team (which I do not)... is to boost key players to get an advantage on the field. For example... when Tyreek first dropped you could get him to 91 SPD on a 25 KC or MIA TT which was +2 to +3 speed better than all the best DBs available. That was a big advantage if your scheme could take advantage of the speed differential.
You can also use TT's and Strategy cards to boost your players over certain thresholds... like 90 route running... 90 MCV... 90 ZCV etc. which is also important.
Mut.gg has a tool under the theme team tab that allows you to look at different "hyrbid" TTs to see what you might want to try out. To me it's one of the more fun aspects of the game trying to max out your team.
Right now, I don’t think it’s super advantageous or necessary to run a theme team tbh. There’s just not that many cards out. And +1 speed sounds nice but it comes at the cost of having an ideal scheme a lot of times or using lesser players to fit the scheme. There are some viable 25 TT though (check the TT page on this site), and one added bonus is that you can set your team captains to the team chem as well for a nice boost to them (85+ ovr).
Most recently I was running Seahawks 25. It’s nice because they’ve got Sweet Feet, Metcalf, Jerry Rice, Hester, Kenneth Walker, Moon, Franco Harris, Tre Brown, Chancellor, Sherman, BWagz, Clowney, Randle, and more. The downside is to get 25, you have to put some crappy cards in as backups. This is annoying because they end up playing special teams, and kick returns go to the house a lot this year so you really don’t want 70 ovrs out there.
I avoid running a TT as I find them limiting and kinda boring. My first couple of MUT years I ran a Vikings TT...and found...my team was almost identical to the year before. As for the boosts...the +2(s) I would think are very useful, but...when I want a plus I just get a better card (if I want a faster WR...I go out and obtain that card). It is economical, but...wait for all the posts as the year goes on from the hurt TTers who will be mad they ain't getting good cards. So...any card is a Viking card once I obtain them and put them in the Purple and Gold.
