My receiver has a guy beat badly deep. My quarterback throws a ball on target. My opponent gets his fourth pick of the game on a defender that suddenly explodes from behind with nearly double the speed of my guy, covering eight yards in the time it takes my receiver to run four.
Why? Is this RNG? Is SPD not really SPD whenever the game decides it isn't? It's stupid that guys get this sudden, unpredictable burst out of nowhere.

Probably the pursuit rating.
I have a very different experience tho, I see defenders with +2-3 spd getting dusted regularly and then they can't even catch up, the distance just stays as it is.
