ea sports is so goofy

That is an understatement. I don't understand the thought process on some of the stuff they do.

They seem even more goofy this year
I like the new gronk, but I agree, I don't like cards getting all these discounted abilities. Any 0 Ap abilities should be tier 1 abilities like homer or something like that. With golden ticket it's going to get way out of hand and it's going to feel like it's madden 20 again
Gent said:Sad thing is, if you don't run HRM, you can pretty much get that exact set up right now:
Zero Chill Brady: Gunslinger, SFL, Fearless - 4 AP total
Oline: Munoz, Larry Allen, Creed Humprhey, Will Shields, Yanda - 5 AP total
TE: Taysom HIll and Kittle SIE - 0 AP
WRs: CeeDee Lamb, Steve Smith Sr, Ty Hilton - 1 AP total for 3 SIE and 1 SOE
Crazy that we're already here and we still have 6 months of the game left.
Yeah but who would run those 3 WRs as their starters? One in the slot maybe...and you really do need HRM to maximize your effectiveness on offense....
But yeah I mean, I have 20 players with abilities on my offense.
If you've played in prior years though, then you know that this year they are discounting abilities but in prior years they did what was much better IMO and increased the AP cap from time to time. That gives you more flexibility. This way you have to use the abilities that EA chooses to discount.
To my previous post....
I really wish EA would increase the AP cap instead of these selective reduced AP abilities and give US the choice where to spend our AP. Sure I understand reduced AP or certain archetypes and at certain threshholds...like strong arm should get discounted PLE or throw power related abilities (last yr it would have been gunslinger too)...and a 96 OVR power back with 95 trucking should get "discounted" bruiser....but not 0 AP closer (See Shaun Alexander) or something that EA just arbitrarily picks....
In prior years there were set guidelines/rules for AP cost on archetypes and as the game went on and cards got better, they increased AP (and sometimes increased or decreased AP costs of certain abilities correspondingly). Not a huge fan of abilities but if you're going to do it, I think prior years was the way to do it.
EA just wants to control what abilities people use and what cards people buy - it's just more freedom of choice they are taking away with every change they make. It's a shame. I remember when you could use whoever you wanted and they played based on ratings and not on some AP ability that EA determines

I think the discounted AP idea had potential, but they just didn’t execute it properly. It’d be cool if certain discounts were locked behind certain attribute thresholds and/or archetypes. They already have that for the tier 1, 2, and 3 ability slots, but literally no one uses those slots anymore. It’s all about the player-specific buckets.
Adjusting AP costs and raising the AP limit worked, but it wasn’t a perfect solution. This way you’d have the freedom to select a multitude of ability discounts, rather than the ones EA picks for you.
I wonder how long it will take to get him tho.

I'm fine with them limiting AP to 12 on both offense and defense and then giving small AP discounts here and there just to allow certain set ups and to give certain player value for specific playstyles.
In my opinion, the only abilities that should be able to be discounted to 0 are the "near useless" abilities that are in tier 1. I can imagine it'd be annoying to the meta players, but at the same time, I'm not wanting to play a remake of Madden 20 where everyone and their mom on every team has abilities activated everywhere. Definitely feels like EA is pumping up all these cards just to attempt to please the fanbase and draw attention away from the constant screw ups.
With all that said, this Gronk card looks incredible and will be incredibly obnoxious to play against.
but....but....but this is Madden 20. it's Madden 20 V4 same plays, players, formations, EVERYTHING.
(I get tight is a dominant scheme in the NFL but someone sure has a blueprint of stopping it somewhere....)
Looks like a new way for EA to make $. Everyone is going to want the newest players with good discounted abilities and that means people will spend to get these players.
If they lower the AP limit, these players become even more valuable.
ichinanjo said:So… the new Gronk card is interesting to say the least. MUT has been weird this year. Now it seems EA has thrown caution to the wind and let all hell break loose.
If I’m not mistaken, Gronk will have:
- 2 X-Factors
- A new “Gronk” archetype
- Just about 10 discounted abilities
- 2x chems for all 32 teams and zero chill/all madden chemistries
- An upgradable 82 OVR that can turn his regular 98 into a SUPER 98 with upgrade tokens
- Am I missing anything? Probably.
Sure, this Gronk card is cool and everyone will be able to get him for free, but damn, EA is really just throwing stuff at the wall now. It seems they’re trying desperately to make something flashy that’ll get everyone’s attention. To their credit—it’s working.
I’ve been skeptical about this discounted ability thing all year. This is the first year that players get these ridiculous 0 AP abilities. How much longer until it’s nearly impossible to spend all 12 AP because everyone will have OP discounted abilities that cost 0-1 AP.
Te be honest This isint that crazy. Frist card with two x factors will be intresting to see but I think it will be a cool thing to try out.

You’re right, the card itself isn’t anything super insane. I’m talking more about how EA just used every trick in the book to make this card as hyped up as possible.

Thats their job to get people playing the game
