Probably to add variety in the safeties. Sean Taylor is stricly a zone / blitzing safety.

You wouldn't. You would get Lott. But some people like the Sean Taylor for different reasons (traits, height, etc.). Not every card needs to be the greatest card of all time, because it dilutes the entire pool if every card is the same.
