Sup bros! I run a pass heavy offense heavily revolved around HRM. I also run a Chargers TT so I added Mike Williams a while back. I stubbornly ran Route Tech and Deep Out (5AP) on him a for long time. I just didn’t trust other abilities would work as advertised.
When Unitas dropped, his high AP cost forced me to cut corners. So I removed the Route abilities on Mike and replaced them with Mismatch Nightmare and Redzone Threat (2AP). Oh. My. Word.
This has been an absolute game changer for me. He’s a monster. My eye always grazes over his spot before each snap to see if he’s got a 1-1 matchup. If he does, I’ll toss that sucker. And more often than not, Mike will moss’em.
In the Redzone, I look for man coverage. If Mike is left alone, I throw him on a fade and it’s a touchdown every. Single. Time.
This has made the game super fun for me. I thought the only way to battle the man coverage meta was with Route tech. But Mike has been dominating in a different way. And not just in Man, I’ve noticed Mismatch lighting up vs zone. Big plays.
The only time I seem to have issues is vs a big corner like Sherm with something like Deep KO or when they man up a taller safety on him (FS Calvin). It still works but it’s slightly riskier. But that adds to the fun imo, moving him around to get better matchups.
My point is, if you’re running guys like Mike Williams, Calvin Johnson, or any tall physical archetype WR, I strongly suggest trying this combo. It has been so much damn fun. And it’s added a flavor to this game I really needed to keep it fresh.
