They took away the cool play designer around Madden 2000, I think from paranoia of illegal plays. Yet RPO's are illegal 99% of time; they make OLs run straight upfield for LBs, yet on run plays where you need this, OLs overly double-team DLs, and stay there while LBs run thru resulting gap. Bring back play designer!!! Defense too! Do a switcheroo on RPO & run blocking. Enable manual doubleteam on runs, as DL abilities are OP vs run (& nerfed vs pass).
Lemme counter the Tecmo Bowl "called run" defense (or when defenders just ignore run play runoff routes) by giving RBs & QBs a throw option on run plays. And so yes, also turn the triple option into quad-option.
The run part, after manual bump-n-run coverage, triggers PI FAR too easily. While PI isn't triggered enough when defenders covering other receivers interfere with intended ones.
Constant blown EASY throws on the run for QB with 98 "Throw On Run" + 97 SAC + 95 MAC. (Abilities trump stats too much).
Yes, I'm talking about Lamar above, and they also turned the GOAT running QB and very rare fumbler into a butterfingers if anyone even brushes up against him. Especially annoying when you routinely sack other QB 6-8 times with no fumbles.
