Geo7030 said:So i watched a yt short from The Herd where it was a picture of a bubble with NFL teams inside it. Basically it was Collin's teams who are his picks to be in the superbowl/win it. The teams inside the bubble were the Packers, Lions, Chiefs, 49ers, Rams, and the Ravens. there were 2 teams right outside the bubble, Buffalo and Cincy. Then i go to the comments to see what people are saying about no Eagles and i kept seeing over and over again "They collapsed at the end of the season" "They collapsed and got blown out". But my question to you guys today is this, what did they even collapse from? Its not like we were 10-1 and playing like a team thats 10-1. WE WERE TERRIBLE! arguably the worst performing 10-1 team of all time. Yes i get we went 1-6 at the end of the season, but still at no point in the season whether we were 5-0, 10-1, or 11-6 were we playing good football. End of my rant, call me delusional all you want. But also the fact Houston and Philly werent in his bubble is nuts
super late to this thread but still want to comment. I'm also a bias eagles fan so take it with a grain of salt. Were we the best 10-1 team? no, but we had a stretch of dolphins (who were hot at the time), commanders, cowboys, chiefs, bills where we went 5-0 against at the time 3 of probably the top 5 teams in the league. So we weren't shit either
When the DC got demoted, and injuries started to pile up at inside linebacker, corner, safety, and jordan davis, jalen carter showed they couldnt handle being full time starters for a full season the snowball effect happened. defensively they were never the same after the bills matchup. They had to play 5 quarters and played over 72 defensive snaps, the week after that they got rolled by the 49ers and from there, they just weren't going to be any good on defense.
Offensively, I think we saw Brian Johnson was too much like Nick Sirianni. Remember Sirianni rookie season as HC? we were 3-5 to start I think, offensively we ran inside zone, rpo, and WR screens. Offensive looked terrible, and they ran the most basic garbage. This year when they collapsed we saw inside zone at nauseum until the defense stacked the box, then we peppered aj brown and devonta smith with goes and out routes. We never threatened the middle of the field with any passing game whatsoever, which made them too easy to defend. Also, something was wrong with jalen, nobody would ever say what but you can't convince me he was not injured.
What was done to fix this... Brought in Vic Fangio, Jonathan Gannon was a fangio disciple, sean desai was a fangio disciple. Had gannon's hiring process been in a less unorthodox manner Fangio was in house ready to take the eagles DC job last season. They've been after fangio for years. He's been a DC since 1995, he old AF, in the past 12 years his defense have been top 10 in points/yards allowed 8/12 times. Multiple players (especially in the secondary) have credited career years to him being the best teacher and defensive mind they've been around. The defense will be at least top 15.
Kellen moore was brought in as the OC, while sirianni said it would be a melding of the 2 offenses. Jalen hurts said it was 95% new. In dallas his offense was 1st, 14th, 1st, and 11th in yards, 6th, 17th, 1st, 4th. The season they were 14th and 17th was the year dak got hurt. I'd also just throw the LA year out the window because the whole offense missed tons of time with injury. This is the most talented roster he has ever had and he already has coached a team to be the best offense in the nfl twice in 5 years.
With a top 5 oline (yes even without kelce we've got 3 All-pro type lineman and the best oline coach in nfl history). AJ Brown, Devonta Smith, Hurts, Goedert, and Barkley. If they even stay moderately healthy it'll be one of the best offenses we've ever seen. Easily division favorites, the only other team in the nfc that is really intimidating is the 49ers, and if love takes another step the packers could be good. getting to a super bowl is really really hard, but we were just there 2 years ago, and we did play good football against good teams last year. They went into the offseason and attacked every single weakness, and if there is any weaknesses in camp howie will attack those too. They'll absolutely be contenders next year.
